Running propshaft dry?

Never launched this 65 year old yacht but intend to next spring.
Engine has been serviced professionally this summer and run successfully.

Advice please for testing engine drive to prop shaft and propeller - only of course for a few seconds.
 
I'd be more concerned about running the engine itself without a supply of cooling water but you can use a hose pipe. If it's literally for a few seconds just go for it...
 
Cutless rubber bearings need to be wet. I have done this with someone pouring water over the shaft.
We’ve got a few test runs required in gear, on the hard (new shaft log, moved/re-aligned the Beta 50, new Radice seal etc… to test) and we’re planning to use this method (one hose feeding the engine, which itself draws neatly from a 25L jerrycan - the second being directed towards the P-bracket and shaft log by a helper outside, at a safe distance).

Reassuring to know it isn’t a completely mad proposition!
