Running cables down an unstepped mast

Thanks for all the ideas. I think the winners are probably Daydream Believer and STOL71. I used the main halyard to thread the aerial wire to the top of the mast where it could be fished out through the exit hole near the sheave. Then at the other end, from the halyard exit to the mast base, the rods were used to push the cable down to the base. It all went rather well. Job done. Now I’ve just got to connect it back to the chart table.
 
A lot of metal masts have a built in conduit for the cables - in our case a plastic one, domestic type.
My method was to use an existing cable(mast head nav light, tv antenna ?) to pull a long mouse (at least two mast lengths as it has to work to and fro) into the conduit.
Then the mouse used to pull the new cable(s). I left the mouse in there which was a good move as the vhf antenna appears to have packed up. Another job for after we launch.
The above method of course works without a conduit.
Tip: use washing up liquid to 'grease' the new cable - works a treat.
