If I was to run a small boat (circa 20ft) with a single 4 cylinder Volvo petrol AQ131/151/171/250/251, at displacement river speeds, so I am guessing probably around 1500rpm, what sort of mpg or gph could I expect?

IIRC I used to get about 0.7 litre nm with a mercruiser 3.0 carb version at displacement speed in a 19 foot boat

That's useful. Thanks Bruce.

If I work to 1nm per litre I should be safe then.

Used to run a VP 151 (175HP V6 ? ) in Princess 25 with single 280 T leg.
From memory the the fuel burn on non tidal was minuscule.

The 151 is a 146hp four cylinder, but if you used minuscule fuel on a 175hp V6, I should use even less :)

Just for interest I had a look at the log for our trip on the Norfolk Broads last year. The trip up the coast from the Orwell and into the Waveney used 202 litres for 61 miles, about 3L\mile, during the next 3 weeks we did 156 miles and used 181 L about 1.1 L/mile. This is with twin 6cyl Turbo diesels.
