Run dry impellers

Has anyone used these before?

After sucking a plastic bag up my raw water intake over the weekend and having the overheat alarm sound a few minutes later it would have been good to have had something like this fitted so I could remove the blockage and carry on my way without having to replace the impeller.

Impeller replacement on my Yanmar is a somewhat involved job...

15 minutes of run-dry is more than enough...but do they work at all?

If the bumph is to be believed then they look worth a go. The only prob is they are an American based company.

I travel to the US a lot for work and can get stuff delivered to our office there if I really cannot find a chandler to ship to the UK...

Yes I always use them and routinely replace any standard impellor with one on any boat engine I work on. They do exactly what it says on the box as they are made of cast urethane rather than neoprene. You can buy them over here from ASAP supplies. Don't hesitate, go for it!

I fitted one last winter and so far it has worked fine, although I don't think it has ever run dry. One factor was that it was quite a bit cheaper than the Yanmar part. I got mine from ASAP but I don't think they were renewing their stock.
