Looking to replace an old Rule 1500 as part of a refit and thinking the same or the 2000, want a non automatic as have a separate auto pump.

Looking at them, the Whale range seem attractive and cheaper size for size and the super sub has an angled outlet making plumbing easy.

Also Whale is made in Northern Ireland and Rule in Mexico.

So should I support UK manufacturing and go Whale or stick to what I had before and stay Rule?

Have separate auto and manual pumps but want a non auto electric pump switched from the main panel as well.

Depends on what you're hoping to achieve. If you want a serious ability to shift water, get the biggest pump you can fit in. If you just want something to remove odd leaks, a smaller pump will do the job. I like Whale pumps, I have a SuperSub in the bilge and a Gulley IC system in the shower. The shower pump works brilliantly; I don't know whether the SuperSub works as there's only dust in the bilge!

Remember that bilge pumps have their rated output quoted at zero head, maximum pipe size, no non-return valve, and 13.6v at the pump. Zero head is obviously a non-starter in a boat; by the time the pipe has got to the outlet (with a gooseneck ideally) you may easily have a 5ft head. This will reduce the output by almost 50%. If the voltage is significantly lower than 13.6v, this might knock another 10-15% off the output.
