My notes from last night's meeting:
ATYC Notes
22nd October 2009 Penton Hook Yacht Club
Discussion of 2008 Rally, some problems. One auction winner didn’t pay the money over, another winner paid but had to get his money back because Cliveden reneged on the prize.
EA Waterways Update - Lock Houses – nothing new, interim report at a meeting on Nov 6th, final report in January, nothing expected to happen in 2009.
River management reorganisation – see ATYC web site “Thames New Management Structure” in the “Library”. Two management groups either side of Hurley lock.
2009 Registration charges. see ATYC web site, Thames User Group meeting 18th September and 2009 Charges document. A further 12% increase is not deemed viable, TUG proposing inflation plus 2%, not hopeful but expect a figure below 11%. 3 year license is no longer available.
Red Diesel – RYA statement also useful letter from EU, see web site soon.
Waterways for Tomorrow – pressure being out on Government to recognise that boaters are only about 5% of waterways users but pay far more than any other beneficiary.
The Association will require more representatives to sit on forums that matter to Thames boaters over the next three years.
RUG reports – Stevens Eyot clean up has been successful, the Small Boat Club are now managing the mooring. Control of Overnight Moorings is now proceeding upriver under the auspices of the River Thames Alliance.
The PLA want to know where Narrow Boaters are when on the tideway. Recommending that they use VHF and call when passing Vauxhall Bridge inbound or outbound. Many NBs found to be using “closed” arches. The PLA have many safety issues with NBs.
New Byelaws will introduce a 12 knot speed limit between Wandsworth and QE II Bridge except for exempted craft.
2009 Rally to be held at Henley, concerns about sponsorship money due to economic climate, chairman asked clubs to quiz their members regarding features of past rallies and whether anything can or should be cut back.
2009 Dinner Dance takes place at Phyllis Court on 21st February where all boathandling trophies won at the 2008 Rally will be presented. See web site for poster/advert
Boathandling Training Sessions for judges and competitors to be held through 2009 at TMYC, UTMYC and TWYC. See web site for details.
Next meeting will also be the AGM – 18th March 2009, probably at Penton Hook Yacht Club.
