rudder stock - bearings

planning to change rudder bearings any advise on type of material most recomended- rudder is of supended type .
Also would appreciate if any suggestions on how to repair, if possible, some backward bending on the stock

After grounding my stock had a bend (slight) and whilst ashore and before refitting the shoe I rigged a 4x purchase to a fixed post and tightened to just over plumb for a few days until it only sprang back to the required place. The bearings I replaced with Tufnol turned to size on a lathe. This is on a Hurley 22 and no probs so far.
