Is it worth painting the rudders on my Seaward 25. I am assuming they are bronze, so what is the best primer to use. Googling says Hempel ProPrimer 17600 but cant find any info on their website, or is it just their ordinary underwater primer?

Where are you based?

In Guernsey I run with bare rubbers, props, P-Brackets and trim tabs, no significant fouling.

Chum with Princess 330 has tried over the years all the expensive commercial potions available on the market and also tried many of the folk remedies most of which seem to be founded on the power of crystals or pyramid power mixed with a bit of homeopathy.
This year he finally come to a conclusion about the effectiveness of all of them in relation to the elbow grease or expence involved.
All the stern gear went back in the the water way it was born. Commando style.
Personally do slap a bit of ordinary A/F on the "P" brackets and rudders.

I have just AF my boat and she had come from fresh water so none on the rudders, etc.. I thought that down here in a warm soup of estuary water that they would all get a couple of coats too - used hard AF. Left the anodes uncovered that they can do their work. Did the trim tabs too.

Old git, do you do the blades on the bow thruster prop?

Phoned Hempel guy today, very helpful, and you get through straight away.
The Hempel ProPrimer no longer exists been replaced with the stuff in spray cans. I will do the P- Brackets and rudders, not going to bother with he props. He said put on three coats of primer not allowing it to dry completely between application, then two coats of hard antifoul
