Some time back there was a question on rudder balance.
I have taken a few photos of my boat being at home on trailer. The rudder shape may be of interest especially to the trailer sailer owners. I have increased the balance and size to make what I think is good handling with light tiller even under shy spin.
Note the boat is nose down so I could extend the rudder for the photo.
For scale that is 90cms from water line to rudder tip. Lets hope the photos come out olewill

A combination of things. The tags were not right, but most importantly the link to the pics does not work. Try to use the "Direct link" supplied and paste it in here using the "Image" function in the Instant Mark-up menu below. Like this.

It did the same to me a couple of days ago. I fiddled around and reposted the pictures and it worked. The trouble is, I don't know what I had done that was different. I was using the 'official' mark up tags so it shouldn't have gone wrong in the first place.

It's probably not your fault unless we are both as useless as each other! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I've just had a go and had the same result as you. Also, your links only show a Photobucket main page (with 'Page not found') and not your photos.

Re the balance area. I think you will find that the rule of thumb is that it should be between 10 and 15% of the blade area. Difficult to judge what yours is because the blade as a whole is angled forward at the bottom but nearer 10 than 15 I would say. Mine is about 12.5% and I would not want it any more than that.

Because you lose most of the sensation of the load on the rudder you have to be certain that the pintles and gudgeons will stand up to the loads imposed upon them!

I havent worked out what you did wrong with Photobucket. Nothing wrong in setting up the account or uploading the pics as far as I can see.

To begin with do as Dipper suggests and copy the "direct link" (it auto copies so all you have to do is click on it) and paste into the forum using the Image tags in dirct mark up.

Then take the easy way and copy and paste the "IMG code" (it auto copies again) directly into your post, without messing around with the mark up code.

What you see in the "post" box is something like {Image}http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd115/William_Hines/100_1910scaled.jpg{/Image} but with square brackets insead of curly ones. If you copied the IMG code then you get "IMG" instead of "image" but it works just the same.

When you have mastered that try posting clickable thumbnails. You'll find the instructions on the site!

BTW if your pictures dont appear in Preview they won't appear in the post

Looks like a nice boat, what kind is it?

[/ QUOTE ] If you look at Will's profile you'll find that it is a Castle 650 Trailer Sailer.

It looks like William was using the 'Share URL' link from Photobucket which contains this gubbins ?action=view&current= rather than the 'Direct Link' code.

We can talk about him in his absence I suppose? He's probably tucked up for the night. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Note my use of the technical programming term 'gubbins'.

[/ QUOTE ] Yes you are right. That is newish, the dirct link used to be the top one of only three.

William The Photo tutor might be usefull. But beware there have been some changes since it was written. The above is one of them. The image sizing on uploading not mentioned but it did exist.

Thanks very much to everyone especially dipper for saving the day.
My number one son is the computer expert and coincidentally he took the computer for 24 hrs to upgrade the program (Linux)
So now it is back and I have been shown how to do the transfer of address from Photo Bucket to YBW.
Now I discover that there seems to be an auto spell checker on this forum and I don't know if he put it there or YBW did. Not to worry it is one of those little mysteries.
Thanks jenku for the kind comments about the boat. Castle 650 is still in production at a sail away price of around 12K squid with trailer. Unfortunately it is a family business and there is an impossible waiting list. (like 2 years) This one is 25 years old and the prototype so is heavier with wooden inside furniture. Having bought it 24 years ago I must say it was one of my best buys.
Castle 650 has a class min weight of 0f 760 kgs so is very light with a balasted lift centre board and under floor balast. It is a treacherous little blighter under spinacker with a propensity for dipping the mast in the water. But it can be made to go well.

Just another 5 weeks till boat goes back in to the water for another season of madness.

Thanks once again to all for your help. I will try again when there is something to post about. olewill

[/ QUOTE ] I don't think so, at least it hasn't auto checked anything of mine!

iespell is a spell checking add on for IE that has been suggested in the past to those asking for a spell checker.

Your spelling must be immaculate! The spell checker underlines spelling mistakes in a red dotted line when you type a post or reply. Unfortunately for us Brits, it uses an American dictionary! /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
