I am fine about the dive gear, and not going deep, and breathing properly, and checking the kit and washing it all nicely. BUT none of the course toldme how to do up the strap thing through the buckle that ties the airtank to the jacket. It is sposed to go around a black plastic buckle and then turn back onto the velcro and then finally the buckle is sposed to be forced down to do it up v strongly, but i have no idea how, despite trying lots of ways, finally making do with the velcro as tight as pos and erm gaffer tape to make sure it doesn't float away too much.

How the heck does the strap go through that buckle?

And there was me thinking that you were going to offer to pick up rubbish in marinas as a 'rubbish diver'
Sorry for the timewasting reply but I haven't a clue in answer to your genuine need to get sorted- good luck- maybe in time you will be a Rubbish Diver and get paid for it!

Post this on the butt scuttlers forum. I'm sure they can advise of a suitable knot to use (with a bit of old hemp rope) that will do the job and save you at least £2.49 /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

Hate to admit it Matt, but that's the one thing I have a problem with whenever it comes completely undone, have been known to spend half an hour or more getting more and more p####d off just trying to do the bloody thing back up. What makes it even worse is that mine even has a diagram showing how to do it!!!

Also have the same problem with some ratchet straps that came with a previous dinghy, there's no actual ratchet, works almost the same as the diving buckle. Funnily enuf they don't get used any more.

You are looking for the bitter end of the strap to do an "S" through the buckle. Tighten up with the buckle open... then snap close and secure the velcro.
They need to be as tight as poss. before you snap close. I had to pull a buddy out when he lost the tank off his stab jacket.
The worst bit is when you need to use different size tanks. The whoe kaboodle needs taking to bits to adjust.

No it doesn't need taking apart for different size tanks, thank goodness. All you need to do is loosen it off or tighten it up and bobs your uncle. That's the easy bit, just don't let it unravel entirely!

Re: aha!

The mangusta 108 is called "Nobody", not "No-one".

You are a liar, you would love to have their fuel bils cos they hardly move BUT the mooring costs in st trop in Aug is €75 per metre of beam per night aargh. Hence urgent need for anchor, ahem.
