Rubber hose removal?

I've got all my bits to service my Beta 14. Last year's service went well, except for the fact that I couldn't withdraw the heat exchanger to clean it properly, because the raw coolant line at the rear was in the way. I tried to remove the rubber hose from it's connector with the exhaust but it was completely stuck. I was thinking of a hair drier to warm it up - any better ideas?

Sometimes wrapping a rag around it and pouring boiling water over the rag gets the heat in more uniformly. Use gloves.

How expensive is a new hose? If you cant remove it, how do you know what its condition is?

An off the shelf solution is an open ended spanner that will clear the hose barb but allow a pull. If no room, you could use crows foot ends.

Then twist screwdriver, leavering slightly and maneuvering screwdriver around the hose.

You may find it easier to use a right angle or cranked screwdriver and tap it with a small hammer to insert it between the hose and the spigot.

Agree with the electrical screwdriver plus trying to 'push' the hose off with an open ended spanner. When re-assembling apply a thin smear of silicone grease. Do it more often in future.

swing the alternator out of the way and get the stack out from the front. then you don't need anything like the clearance at the back to get the cap back on with the O ring so it should be much easier.

Just had a second thought, you need to undo the clips on both ends of the short pipe. Then you need to slide the whole pipe ONTO the pipework that is fixed to the engine, don't try to remove the rubber hose from the engine completely. Hope that makes sense. It is easy once you have done it the first time.

Thanks for all the replies. It might be easier to move the alternator, but I might like to remove the hose and silicone grease for future eventualities - I've enough ideas to be going on with, anyway
