Worth support

What do people think of its aims and the like?

Well I don't sail on the Thames - did from Kingston when an apprentice at BAe - but they sound rather timely judging by the way things seem to be going on the Thames and elsewhere...

It's very rarely that I sound a note of discord, but for the life of me I can't see the problem with this particular planning application - as far as Thames Yacht Club is concerned.

The issue seems to be for the Raters of which there are only ten left and that split between two clubs. From the sketchy presentation at RUG 8 meeting, I got the impression that the dinghy racing would not be affected.

The proposal does not impinge on the River any more - the residential moorings are already there, except for a pontoon; as memory serves that is already present with some hulks moored alongside.

So is it a matter of wind that would spoil the Raters sailing - their masts are as tall as the London Eye :D and were built to hammer along in light airs?

The site is currently behind a massive wall - are the houses going to be any taller?

OTOH the documents presented by the developer are incredibly detailed and full of details (probably puff - I'm a cynic) and would brighten up an incredibly scruffy and boring view from the river - and from the main road as well.

Kingston has become more upmarket in recent years and this development could be seen as adding to that.

I DO want to keep the River preserved - but that can't in all reasonableness extend to what's on the bank. Indeed, certainly upriver, the Thames is one of the last bastions of architectural diversity and indeed follies. Even Platt's Eyot has some charm (?)

Please free to shoot me down, I humbly acknowledge that I escaped from that part of the River many years ago.

Seems to me that they have set up to stop one development and added boating reason to the arguement . That whole stretch could do with an overhaul anyway . Its a dump !
