Where is the best place for a stinkie like me to anchor and watch all the yachts go racing past? Where is the most action?
I was thinking either Osborne Bay or Alum Bay.

Watched from Bembridge last year. Wonderful sight. You can anchor in the shallows just outside the channel, or go in and moor up, and walk up to the village for lunch, then wander along the coast for a good view. Whitecliff Bay also good. These two best in Westerlies. Another one for West winds is just inside Hurst.

If wind from North, go to Freshwater Bay.

If wind from east, Alum Bay best. Can always land and go up the lift and walk out to the Needles.
