Royal Naming at Swanick (lots of images)

The two Princesses were duly named at Swanick Marina this afternoon, Hurricane's "Jenny Wren" and Jimmy the builder's "Trick or Treat"

A very big thanks from me and 'er indoors for the invitation from both of you, to partake of the bolly and canapés, followed up with an excellent Chinese dinner later this evening,

with a side show of RR's knot tying prowess, as in the following images, there is also a caption competition for some of the images below.

Hi Dave

Nice to meet you yesterday, thanks for making the effort to come along (you were first!) and thanks also for the pics. In the rush of everything over the past couple of days I haven't managed to take any pictures of my own at all.

The party was a huge success, it was great that so many people had made such an effort to travel down to join in. We managed to get through an embarrassing amount of champagne (although full marks to Princess for chipping in with some emergency Bolly and the generous supply of Princess hats and flags). My teak took a bit of beating but apart from that the boat survived the onslaught relatively unscathed. And thanks the miracle workers at Princess customer service I think she'll back to brand spanking new condition again in a couple of weeks time.

So: now the real fun begins. We've got the rest of this week off, and so if the weather will let us we are variously hoping to see St Peter Port and Weymouth before landing back at our new home berth at Gosport at the end of the week.

We went off to Poole on Sunday morning and on the return trip up the Solent today we were accompanied by a 'Hells Angel' on a brand new P42...

You looked very comfy up on the bridge Jimmy and then coming the other way was a pretty impressive sight of 'Jenny Wrenn' going past on our port side at about 25 knots, what a fantastic wake! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Hope you enjoy the week and your first channel crossing on 'Trick ot Treat?'

I wont bother with any more photo's of men swinging on cranes, or red faced oiled people in Chinese resteraunts, or come to mention it any other funny photo's at all.

However worthy of note on our journey to Swanick SWMBO and myself got overtaken by this 'Little Boat'............

Boy was it quick!

Then this bad boy appeared behind us, which scared SWMBO whitless, as they got closer and closer, she was wondering if 'Pirates' were off our Port side!!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

We were however just able to pull away from our pursuer!

After the festivities, and a cracking stay over in Poole on the Sunday, on the return leg, with SWMBO at the helm, we were rudely shaken by this 'White shiny' thing off the Port side again, 'Trick Or Treat'.................I'll give you bloody 'Trick Or Treat'!! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Created a nice wake, waved their arms about then disapeared from whence they came.........

On turning around to face front again, approaching, far to fast was this flippin mahooooosive thing..............

Jenny Wren, I believe it was called, way exceeding the gentlemans leasurly pace cruising speed accross the solent!

What great shots of forum boats, old and new, underway, they all look fab. Of course i'm a Princess fan, I bought one, but the 67 just looks so in proportion, and the styling is suberbly sleek, understated and timeless.

Firstly, a big thanks to everyone who came to the party.
Sorry for the delay in adding my bit to this thread but I wanted to wait until Jimmy was safely back before posting.

As some of you will know, we well and truly christened the P67 over the bank holiday. Firstly with a continual stream of champaigne and then a trip to the Channel Islands.

A very very very big thanks to all at Princess for making this possible - for producing such fantastic boats and then following through making our experience of buying our dream such a great experience. I'm sure Jimmy will agree. For those of you that didnt made it to Swanwick, we were practically swimming in champaigne - courtesy of Princess - not to mention the exclusive hats thet were handed out.

Then there was the rat demonstration (see above) - the temptation to dunk him was hard to overcome.

So, on Sunday we said our goodbyes to Ocean Tigress, Heuston and others as they sailed away into the sunset - well Poole actually. And finally, I could get down to reading some manuals and checking kit. We were due to cast off the following morning (Monday) and I didnt know how to swith the kit on let alone how it was going to operate.

After fiddling around getting my backup system together, I sat down to find that the manual that I actually wanted to read had only been provided on a CD and I wasnt going to get the computer all fired up so, with the quick ref guide SWMBO and I worked out how to do a simple go to cursor - that should get us there shouldnt it?

In fact everything fell into place much quicker and we soon had AIS superimposed onto the digital radar as well ad a fully working plotter. For those of you that havent followed this story, we have just had the new G Series Raymarine kit fitted in quite a big way - 4 displays - 2 GPM processors driven from 2 wireless keyboards etc.

Monday came and, although we had a professional skipper on board, I took the boat out from Swanwick and down to the Channel Islands with very little input. Wow - she's big - not used to handling the etiquette for this size of vessel - calling Hamble River Control and advising that we are outbound etc - instead of just leaving.
Then there's the actual boat handling - just the same as I'm used to but a whole lot more expensive if things were to go wrong.

So, off we went - Jimmy off first - so that we could negotiate the tight sales berth outside the Princess offices. Once in the river things becane normal and we proceeded without any misshaps.

Jimmy lead right the way down the Solent until - yes - there they were - the reprobates on their way back from Poole - see the pictures above.

Everything went really well - and then about 15 miles out into the channel, Jimmy called me and asked if we would like to do a little photo shoot. So we took it in turns to stop while the other boat drived past. We were looking for some good running shots - here are mine for Jimmy (of Trick or Treat from JennyWren) - I hope to get mine later when Jimmy gets home.

Whiles away the time anyway.

The weather was starting to pick up a little so we transferred to the lower helm. Plenty of time and open water so we tried to do the whole transfer at planing speed. It was explained to me at the boat show that the MTUs that are fitted to JennyWren allow a transfer of position whilst on the move. And yes yes yes - it works - simply go to the new position - press the command button - select the throttles - and bobs your uncle you're running from the new position - piece of cake - and thats how we did the transfer from then on. No slowing down necessary. Brilliant.

So, into St Peter Port we went - sorry not many pics on this trip - too excited playing with all the buttons.

But here we are - new marina to us as well - QE 2 - - too big for the usual Victoria marina.
We were the little one!!!!

minor point, but couldn't you have moved the VHF handset, and then moved the port side G series screen down and in a bit, so it was all contained within the panel, then re-positioned the VHF handset on the fibreglass to the side of it?

Unfortunately not, Nick.
We tried all the permutations - in fact the handset was put in that position from the other side after we had positioned the displays.
That port side display always was going to be a bit of a squeeze but it looks much better than I thought it would. These new displays are actually quite big and the P67s console was presumably designed for the Furuno/E Series footprint of displays.
I'm pleased with it anyway and it works well.

I'll put up a full post on the G Series later if anyone's interested (once I've understood it myself) - maybe MBY would like to do a review on the kit - I shouldnt think many boats have a system like this at the moment.
