Rowing Naked essential?

Flew back from Antigua once sat alongside a guy who had just completed a transatlantic row. From what he said his biggest problem was salt water sores on his arse and blisters on his hands - he showed me the latter and they were dreadful. I didnt ask to see the former.

Naked rowing in the UK? Frostbite? Nipples like baptist chapel hat pegs ( you have to be a northerner to know what they are like). And dont forget that most of us are middle age or later.

In the Daily Telegraph news item on the war wounded and disabled transatlantic rowers

I note that they "...row naked in order to reduce friction sores". Should I introduce that to my crew when we row the dinghy ashore at Salcombe et al?

Having met your crew a while back, can you please post advance notice? It is a bit of a drive from Poole to Salcombe only to arrive too late! Happy New Year to you all, clothed or not!

I think rowing naked has it's advantages...

I dont get this - how come the support yacht is 6/7 days away, in Cape Verde? Not very good planning, IMHO.

It's a Challenge67, so should be able to cover 200 miles a day.
I wonder if it had to go an pick up some water? Can't see any reason why you would want to sail about the ocean with 300l of fresh water 'just in case' knowing all the rowing teams had a desalination plant on-board?

It was here for a few days. It said 'Talisker' on the side in very big letters, so maybe they had something more seasonal than water.

300litres is nothing aboard a 67' global challenge boat. She is supposed to be a support vessel so one would think that the sustenance of life should be pretty high up their priority list.
