I had my eight year old son with me last week on Vim (Co26), and with steady rain planned for the Thursday I wanted to be alongside somewhere so we could escape the cramped cabin. We ended-up on Pearson's Quay at Rowhedge where the boat lay very well. First time I'd been ashore there since the new houses went up and wow, how it has all changed......

Anyway, reason for the post is to say that there wasn't a huge amount of mud on the up-river end of the quay and this made it an excellent spot to scrub-off. Dave the bailiff was very helpful, pub was good and the boat is now clean again. Overnight charge is £10 which seems more than reasonable, although fresh water would be useful. Recommended!

Wivenhoe and Rowhedge have been rivals for centuries, so as a Wivenhovian I feel obliged to stand up for my side. Actually, Rowhedge isn't at all bad, but I don't like the new houses much. They are designed to look inoffensive but to my eyes just look twee. We have a local sailing association linking the two villages, so we do get to talk occasionally.
