Had a little pootle down river yesterday evening and saw a ( coxless four ?) coming towards me so I backed off the power as usual and moved over so they didn't have to change course . As they passed me one of them shouted thankyou :)
I was so delighted with the small offering of thanks that I made sure the river was like a mill pond as we passed on our return trips :)

You obviously never ventured to the lower reaches then, Ian. I have battle scars from at least one "ladies" rowing eight in the Sunbury /Molesey stretch.

Are you suggesting they weren't ladies or you have a problem with ladies :)

I don't normally have any issues with rowers, but did come across a particuarly obnoxious coach at Henley this year, I had passed dozens of rowers without incident but when I came across him and his flock of scullers he seemed determined that I slow down, without apparently even looking at the non existant wash. Think the beer in my hand probably wound him up;)

All sounds very stressful down there. Up here one mostly encounters swimmers. They don't wave much but I'll forgive them that.
