I think I may have to leave this forum if No Regrets get any more sensible !! I have read with interest his last few comments and have been amazed how erudite and dare I say it, even completely correct , on several occasions no lesshave been. I was seriously impressed with his comments on Byrons thread about clubs in decline , and here he goes again with yet more sense about rowers............Im worried.
Do you think that having a huge throbbing motor at his disposal now has given him that air of statesmanship that seems to come with an increase in boat length? or am I dreaming?

Then at Wargrave a historic sculling event was taking place with the old wooden skiffs and most the river coned off for the racing when in the navigation bit one of the above overtakes me in the narrow nav bit just as African Queen holiday barge [QE2] is heading downstream...I had to stuff my bow into the bank running aground in the process or mangle them between me and the African Queen .
What is it that makes educated ,professional peeps turn up to the rowing club get changed to Row/safety boat man/Megaphone cycle lunatic and morph into c^%s .

I've had rowers do that to me in the past before as well, not happening any more though, nowadays I'd either stop and let the rower hit whatever the obstruction was, or manoeuvre my vessel into "their" piece of river to get out of the way and argue it out with their umpire afterwards, not risking my boat for idiots any more.

Like others, I've had them stop broadside across the river in front of me far too many times to have any sympathy for them now.

Having said that, when slowing down for them, there are some that will give an acknowledging wave as a thank you, so their not all bad but as always its the bad ones that tarnish all the rest.

I have a tannoy speaker connected to my VHF fist mike which I am often tempted to use. However, my typical British restraint has, thus far, prevented me from doing so.

Not quite all......! I have to agree with much of the sentiment here though. When I shout "thanks" from my scull it is usually received with shocked faces or grumpy ones as people assume I am giving the usual "rowers greeting!"

I agree, I get much the same reaction when saying thanks from the cox position and I know they can hear me, via the cox box and speakers!

Well done. It is just about courtesy. And for clarity, I used to row in Australia and like the sport. But the attitude from those I have come across on the Thames has been very poor.

They should try learning to row on Sydney Harbour. Don't remember the ferries slowing for us...
