Not the feature on chart plotters but the buses. Concorde keeps getting a thread here and that was certainly an engineering achievement - form follows function and all that- but the routemaster did more for transport globally. It was probably all held together by 3" screws into endgrain like all the other buses. And who led the way in double decker design?? this little island again. Anyway there's a program on radio 4 about it soon - tomorrow?
And another thing; why doesn't the Morris Minor get more credit - it should be more than just a local cult. It's all that Beetle's fault. The moggy gets associated with bald men with cardigans whereas the VW gets onto beach scenes in surfing films as well as that Herbie rubbish. The Minor, the Minor--- those curves, they made Enzo jealous. And the suspension -- up yours Citroen.
Anyone got pet names more the Minor? A friend called them Bumblys which was a bit patronising.
It's pi....pouring down and I can't do what I planned in caseyou hadn't guessed.
regards...Spuddy

Re: routemasterPet names for the Minor

I had a Moggy Minor for my second car. I was 18 at the time with little money and my Moggy was knackered when I bought it, so the name I usually called it was "start, you f*****g b*****d!"

Re: routemasterPet names for the Minor

what a cooincidence. Same age, same car, same name. to be fair, it had a decent battery and started ok. brakes were crap though and I started this project to put new seals in the master cylinder, which was hidden behind a torsion bar, which was hidden behind something else and so on. So it was expensive, difficult to maintain and got me down.
Which brings me on to the soon to be ex memsahb...
My late in-laws always had pet names for their cars and they didn't breakdown- could there be something in it?
spent my money on the boat and now can't afford the solicitor, still it will be alright in the end,

Criossing the class barriers ..

Mini Mokes
VW Beetles ..... (note that VW Never gave it that name !!)
Citroen Diane

These three cars crossed the social barriers from Rolls Royce owning familys to the simple lower strata's of the social classes .... without any stain or comment.

The M.Minor was the world of District Nurses, etc. - especially - wrongly actually when numbers looked at - the Traveller !!

All our Yesterdays ?? I think its sad that so much has been done and so much is forgotten ........

The ex .....

She had to accept that I valued up the total of the house - THAT I PAID FOR .... then divided 50 - 50. Then I said what I was keeping .... boat, main car, holiday caravan etc. and she could have second car ..... etc. Each was valued and then applied to the house shares. Final adjusted shares = 57% to her, 43% to me. Court / Solicitors agreed and that is status quo now. She lives there and is responsible for maintaining property - I pay my share of mortgage and kids / her maintenance.

When she co-habits / decides to leave if before the court decided cut-off date - I get my dosh and I'm free ......

QED .... sod 'em !! I got the boat !!!!
