Route Check - Portishead to Swansea to Milford

Lol... Missus is still wanting to not go all the way to Milford, or of nerves. She'd rather we pick up a bouy at Tenby or anchor thru the night there (thinking it's closer to "home" or Swansea who have been wonderful to us. We've never done either, so am actually well up for it!

Glad you sorted it, it's all part of the fun of boat ownership, bet you're glad you bought that aux!

Do you think the belt was slipping causing your over heating issues last year or unrelated?

I have been wondering about that.

When we went out for 60 mins today... I might have been imagining it, but I think the temperature guage was lower. For the last 10 mins, I also jacked it up from 20mph/4000rpm to 25mph/4500rpm, and the temperature didn't budge.

We did have a little coolant in the bay afterwards (maybe 150ml), but that's probably because we filled it to the brim. I touched the overflow and it was wet, and the manual surgically says to fill it about that much lower (to a notch on the filler... But pft... Recommendations ;).

And the belt we took off was half the width of the new one, so pretty worn out.

So maybe maybe maybe... it might have been that all along!

Saundersfoot has a visitors pontoon in the harbour (left side). well sheltered but dries to soft mud... no problem for you. Personally I find it preferable to Tenby as its better sheltered and easy access to town. Tenby on springs - you will have to anchor (or a couple of visitors bouys) a loooong way out.

Question...

Staying two nights at Tenby. We're on a designated visitors bouy... And none of the other boats appear to have bothered with an anchor light. Which is good because ours seems not to work.

That'll be alreet, right?

And oh god... Today was another nightmare. Boat now fixed twice. Will post details when I'm not feeling crippled!

Tenby, one of my favourite places, got any pics?

Will be picking your brain abut the visitors buoys when you get back!

Ok... Gonna set a tight (25m) anchor alarm. The bouys are in a row, so we can use them as a transit if alarm goes off.

The guy next to us didn't seem to care, but he's not sleeping on it... But then the bouy behind it doesn't look too healthy...

That was/is a concern I thought about but if it's not touching bottom it should always be below the bow as you move round the buoy in theory.

Yea anchor alarm sounds like a better idea to me.

Just another tip, looking at your top pic, not that you're asking for them or I think you'll need to get out of the bunk to do it now but use two lines to the top of the buoy. One from the port fairlead through the shackle and back to the port fairlead and another from the starboard doing the same, obviously cleated off whereever. Stops chafe and also gives you a backup.

Anyways, sleep tight.

Two lines now attached. Good job too... Could see where chaffing was starting, so another 36 hours could have been dodgy.
