Round the Isle of Wight in a sports boat

Based on the weather we had this morning from Calshot to the Needles they probably went around twice just for fun.

Here is the output from the Navionics track on my Android phone

P.S the overall time includes lunch and a swim in Osbourne Bay plus a very slow Cowes to Calhsot return leg as it got rough mid-Solent (well rough for us) around lunchtime.

Looks like you had a lovely day. My boat hasn't left its berth all weekend for one reason or another. :(

Nice pics Matt, looks like the sea was as calm as it gets. :)

So Saturday came. We left Saxon Wharf about 8:30, A Karnic (Matt of this parish) (21ft) and me (22ft Monterey) to head for Cowes where we met the other two at Trinity Landing. A 16 ft Fletcher and a 16 ft Marlin. Left about 10:00 and cruised to Yarmouth where the Marlin popped in to top up his tank. Ambled round to the Needles for a photo session.

Back of the Island was lovely, very few boats around, flat calm so we made St Catherines comfortably for just after slack at 11:40. Slightly wavy but not enough to spill the beer.

Into Sandown Bay where we rafted up to my anchor for a swim and lunch close to a rather nice looking Fariline.

Off again and round to Bembridge which was too busy so we went back round to Whitecliffe Bay for a snooze, swimming, ringoing etc.

About 4:00 we'd had enough and took the direct run back to Saxon Wharf droppin in to Hamble Point to make sure the Fletcher got in without running out of fuel.

6:00 we were all tucked up and headed home for a barby.

Fantastic trip had by all with no problems and loads of fun

The Fletcher was a monster, really flew.

The details

81 NM logged
Max Speed - 37.6 knots
Av Speed - 16.4 knots
Engine hours 6.5
Approx fuel bur 30 gals
Approx 2.7mpg
Approx 4.6 gph

Would I do it again, damned right I would. :D

Hi Jokerboat,

Sounds like a nice day, where are all the pics? :)

Coming later, our PC at home is bust so it might not be for a few days. If any of the other guys send me pics I'll extract some and post.

I think the great discovery was Whitecliffe Bay. And that if you take your time and go in good company, any trip is fun. Mind you we couldn't have had better conditions :D

After all that fun in the sun, the least you can do is admit that the shoulders are a tad pink and sensitive this morning :D

Shoulders are fine. Tis the top of the head that got it because my hat wouldn'y stay on and I've got less hair than I used to have.

Sounds like fun.. another IT bod to join in next time, presuming there'll be one:)

And include me,

It has to be pretty smooth and flat both for my small boat (18ft Bowrider) and for my stomach, but would enjoy the company

Martin

Righto. Yes, agreed, needs just the right sort of day. Anything over F3 SW woiuld be most unpleasant for small boats round there.
