Have been persuaded to enter, and really looking forward to it.

But now they have published the ISC Ratings, I am puzzled by ours. Full List Here

There is a gaggle of Moody 346's in Group C with a rating of 0.977. Us and one other are in Group B on 0.980 - along with the entire Suns**l fleet - starting 10 minutes earlier.

How did we end up in that group then? Must be that they know about our high performance capability, I spose !!

Who else has entered? Happy with your rating?

Anybody up for a Scuttlebutt competition? Declare your details on here, or PM me if you prefer, before 1200 Friday 17th June. I will then find out the results and publish the Scuttlebutt winners.

PS Just spotted Cutter in our Group too.

Its the creme de la creme green flag group. Actually is 'cos we are all so dangerous they lump the idiots together!! We'll have the usual surgeon, urologist, raditherapist, radiolgrapher, GP and a drinks engineer on board so if you need replumbing or a Iron Bru infusion let us know!!
If you are tempted to try goose rock have a look at the Yarmouth lifeboat website - there is a wonderful pic of one of their crew standing on the wreck of the Varvassi with the needles in the background. Also Ryde sands seems further out than last year - judged by gliding over it last weekend - so will be interesting going inside No Mans.
We have booked a night at East Cowes before in order to get a reasonable start - where are you on the Friday?

Not your performance Nick; ours! Moondance is already on their records hence the rating.

2 years running. In 2001 had we known there was an MOA cup for the fastest Moody RTI then we would have won it. Overall position was something like 316 out of 1600 and 36th in our class of 120ish. (so there's a challenge for you)

We already have our own GP on board. If he decides one of us needs to be referred, we will give you a call.

I think its the white flag group, IIRC from the website - maybe they think we shoudl all surrender!

We will be at our home port of Hythe overnight on the Friday, eating in the wonderful Italian restuarant in the marina.
 
Whilst I am not racing around the island, I may cross the line at the same time as my class, and direct my course in roughly the same direction /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
 
Going for it again this year - but now have an IRC number (0.863), going to be difficult to live up to this unless its windy.

Can anybody answer a question for me? I thought that if you had an IRC cert you had to use it for the race and not race under ISC handicap. Is this true or not?

I think that they say that if you have an IRC rating you should race under that - but I'm sure they don't check or enforce it.

Anyway you could always choose to race under a different sail configuration and so genuinely say that your IRC rating is not valid.
 
I've raced with both. The IRC ratings do tend to be fairer, but then the competition is stiffer too. The nature of Bedouin and Aeolus is that compared to most boats we get a better rating under IRC than ISC; but in my case I regard RTIR as a cruise in company rather than a race, so we are much better racing against ISC boats.

Also, with an IRC rating of about 0.86, we used to find ourselves significantly slower than any other boat in most IRC races, and it is difficult to compete satisfactorily under those circumstances.

I haven't entered yet - it was clashing with a holiday which has now been postponed. I may enter if I can find a crew, or perhaps hitch a lift with someone else

Never happy with my rating but since this is the only race I do each year I can't be bothered with the IRC rating. As a consequence my own X332 (set up for cruising) carries an ISC rating of 1.03 whilst the main clutch of X332s (the racing crowd) carry an IRC rating of less than 1.

Doesn't sound much but it represents nearly 20 minutes on a 9 hour race.

Hadn't thought of the "out of spec" reason for not using your IRC cert - it's been a long week.

Funnily enough (and probably what started thread) a brown envelope from the ISC landed on door mat this afternoon. I'm in the <font color="blue">BLUE</font> fleet, starting at 08:10, along with the Sonata fleet and Contessa 32 fleet. This'll be the chance to see how the ol' girl compares to the yacht she's most often confused with (and it ain't the Sonata).

This'll probably frustrate half my crew for the race, they've a Sonata in Eastbourne, so I imagine that they'll race that next year - family, you can't pick'em and you can't trust'em /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

As for the Scuttlebutt race within a race - if somebody can convert (fairly /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif ) IRC into ISC, then I'm game.
