I have been persuaded by 'friends' this is a good idea??

I need to provide ' Keel, engine, prop and ballast configuration' for my Verl 790

Would fin keel, inboard diesel rear mounted, saildrive with two bladed prop suffice and what about ballast.

Any help appreciated - if anybody has a full spec for this Ed Dubois designed offshore racer I would be very grateful.

Google will find specs for you with ballast figures around 1750lbs (794kg) to 1800lbs.

Unless you are an enthusiastic yacht racer and are used to conditions in which hundreds of boats are all crammed into a few square metres of water it may not be a good idea. It could be very bad idea!

Insurance valid for racing?

Yes it is a very, very bad idea (I have done it three times previously and said I would never do it again).

But if it makes a couple of friends happy then I can justify it...

Thanks for the info.

A very, very bad idea? It really isn't that good at all...

Compared to proper round-the-cans racing on the Solent or in local harbours it really seems like an overcrowded start followed by a procession in which one leg (The upwind one, usually) is a tacking battle with everyone forever trying to take chunks out the port quarter of your boat.

I've done it twice and won't be going back, even though one of my times was pretty good. However, my cousin seems really keen to continue after almost winning his class last year. Still, you pays your money etc. Go for it anyway, enjoy and we'll be expecting a full report please.
