Mods - I’d be grateful if you could leave this in Scuttlebut as I think that the Racing forum is not well read.

The Round Mull Race 2019 is from 28th-30th June, leaving Oban on the Friday and sailing to Tobermory. Day 2 is Tobermory to Bunessan and day 3 is Bunessan to Oban (with an early finish for light winds).

Highlights are the Thursday evening buffet, Friday night prize giving and Saturday night ceilidh. It’s a race for cruisers, with the emphasis on fun. If you’re Scotland-based and would like to give it a go, please do. It’s very friendly, relaxed, amusing and sociable. We cut our (still blunt) racing teeth on it, and try to do it every year. There’s a white sails class too.

No connection other than being a very happy competitor for the last few years (in an old boat).

Any questions, drop me a line - or speak to the organisers.

Cheers,
Hugh

It it like Round the Island without all the radio checks?

Except that you get to stop every now and then for a couple of pints, I would be tempted, but long ago I promised myself and my crew that we would never again go into Bunessan, the most inhospitable place on the West Coast and that includes Ullapool.

Up until two weeks ago I'd have been a definite entrant (solo, or perhaps with a comely crew ;)) because my old best friend - my thirteen year old black labrador - "crossed the Bar".
I was determined to sail, sail, sail around these waters and afar, having no more commitments ashore.

Ten days ago I collected Canna, a six weeks old, black labrador puppy.

Anyone want to buy my boat?

Good luck to all entrants for fair winds and kind waters.

......... Bunessan, the most inhospitable place on the West Coast and that includes Ullapool.

Absolutely not the case when the Round Mull race gets there. The Ross of Mull Historical Society hosts a ceilidh in the Community Centre with a superb buffet (and bar) which is more than worth the effort of getting there. No idea what it's like the other 364 days of the year but it is the most welcoming of places that night.
I won't be there this year, unfortunately, but instead will be at a family birthday party - if I'd only had the foresight 40 years and 9 months ago!

I'm not sure that 40 years and 9 months ago foresight would have even crossed your mind! :)

Probably less foresight and more foreplay...

But that aside, the RMR is still a very welcoming and fun race. Get in there if you’re curious.
