oh it'd be fine. The ships is still punching along at 22 knots + hence all the spray.

22 knots? /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif She won't even be in double figures!

Hiya Paul

Nice one - well spotted. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif As your the merchant gyru I'd have to take your council. She does seem to be moving quite slowly. Some of the waves seemed to be following from the aft port quarter and overtaking her. Fun Video too!

um really? Doyou have other info? That ship seems to be really zipping along. 20- 24 knots is a normal speed of biscay shipping if you rumble up or down the portugueses coast.

Um well, "other info" is real life experience...

I've been across Biscay many times on ships ranging from a couple of thousand tonnes up to 160,000+ tonnes in equally poor weather. 20-24 knots is only normal speed for big container ships and passenger ships. All the rest of us "Biscay shipping" trundle along at a much more sedate speed.

Why is it that whenever I click on these links all I get is a load of gibberish such as

um, that's surprising. I went up and down portuguse coast to/from uk and a staggering number of ships seen on radar in shipping lanes showed that 20 knots very normal, some faster. Same applies in the channel it seems they do a lot more than 10knots and for most of the time and regardless of the weather. Whatevr...
