Rough night at Anchor!

I am not so much suspicious of anchor-tests as well as of the fact that many anchor-tests do not take actual anchoring conditions into account. Putting an anchor into the sand and then pulling at it with a 4-wheel drive car on the beach indicates quite well the resistance the anchor experiences when it is dug in properly and pulled at in a straight line. It does not take into account that the direction of the tide may change or that the direction of the wind may change, requiring the anchor to reset. Nor does it take into account the influence of waves. I feel that the influence of the waves is like a fatigue test and think that, like in metals, where the fatigue strength is much lower than the tensile strength, also an anchor shows less resistance than in a straightout pull..

Depth: 7.5 Mtrs

We were both in Sand.

Me, Prout 37 Cat with Spade 100 and 40 mtrs chain

Him Steel Cutter with 45Lb QCR and 40 mtrs chain

We both held really well.

Conclusion..... Hmmmm.... Anchors are good things to have on board!?!?
