I got one for Christmas but have only managed to light it three times. I almost used up a gas lighter on each ignition. This is not saving the planet.

Has anyone got any tips for getting the thing going? Or shall I throw it in the oggin?

I have a "Whitby & Co" hand warmer, which is exellent. Uses liquid lighter fuel. Runs nearly all day on one filling.

mines a zippo and not easy to get alight. This might be due to cheap lighter fuel, I fill it with the swan neck bottle pop the top on and with it in the flame of my gas cooker, get it glowing red JOB DONE runs all day
A mate had a chink copy which burned far to hot !!

I've had Zippos for donkey's years and don't know why, but the OP is right: they're much harder to light than they used to be (zoom in on callus on right thumb), even with branded Zippo fuel. They were always trickier to light at altitude, but I guess that's not a big issue in Plymouth.

Not many people know this, but the machine which presses the lower half of the case was made in Ealing, so perhaps it's a function of increasing snarl-ups on the Hanger Lane Gyratory System. Ok, I'm going now...
