Hello, and thanks. Taking on a good deal of water in the bilge yesterday, I discovered a drain valve that was rotted but could not be pulled out or pushed through. So as an emergency fix I used underwater silicone putty on and around it. I don't need the drain and would like to seal it myself permanently or fix it without hauling the boat out of water. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi and welcome

There is no quick cure for this problem, the only really safe option is to lift the boat out ASAP and repair her properly, underwater damage can't be bodged!
I don't know what you use the boat for, if it's for fishing "there ain't a fish worth a life"
Sorry no positive quick fix!!

Thanks for the response julian, and a sensible one at that, but can you or anyone suggest a quick fix to buy some time if I just plan on leaving her in the slip?

All things are possible, but any action other than lifting and fixing properly will leave you open to the very real possibility of sinking at your mooring, which happens rather more often than you might imagine. Even quite a small leak that causes the bilge pumps to kick in will slowly drain the batteries without shore power, and it doesn't take much for a small auto bilge pump to lose the battle anyway.

What value do you place on your boat staying afloat ?

If it were me, I would have it immediately lifted ashore onto a stand and fix it when I had the time.

There really is not much of a choice, other than getting her out of the water, then the job is simple. As has been stated what's she worth? and do you want to risk losing her??
