rotostay problems.can anybody advise. the lower part of the alu foil keeps lifting from the rotostay drum.what is supposed to stop this happening

In 21 years of using a Rotostay, I never had this problem. Normally the difficulty is in lifting the foil off the drum when you come to diassemble.

Which version do you have, the one that includes a top swivel that allows forestay and foil to rotate as one unit, or the version that uses a halliard from top of the mast down to a unit that slides down the foil to attach the top part of the genoa. In either case, I would have expected that if the halliard was tight enough, that this and gravity would prevent the foil lifting.

Bryantee's comments are mine too. In a sense you are lucky to have this problem, as usually the problem is removing the foil from the drum. Grease it well before securing it to avoid this probs in future.

Seems to me like you may have the furling line wound the wrong way. the load on the sail should screw the left hand thread inwards, otherwise it will unscrew itself.
It should leave the starboard side of the drum and come aft.
