Rotostay II manual/maintenance pdf

Hiya mine is the same as yours.
I was told the fitting at the top of the drum where the foil attaches is a left handed thread and needs to be unscrewed before the drum is able to be dropped.
I uploaded a picture I found on here, see post 16. Both the drum, and the fitting look like ours. From your reply I gather this is not the case, and the drum is able to be dropped buy lowering the rope guide and knocking out a pin, which is located where exactly? I am guessing, but the photo shows a recess in the bottom of the fitting which looks as if it would take a cotter type pin. I want to wash and grease the bottom bearings and don't want to cock it up.

The recess you can see in the right hand photo has a screw which is undone with an allen key - the rope guide is then free to turn and drop. The black plastic pin securing the rope drum can be seen when you remove the furling rope and it simply knocks out allowing the drum to be removed from the bottom of the stay.

Well, the drum came off very easily, as did the top bearing, which I have at home at the moment. I am trying to dissemble it. I have undone the grub screw, but the inner cup is hard to undo. Does anyone know what hand thread it is? as if I have to use force I want it to be the right way. Also will I have to be careful so as not to loose the ball bearings when it does come out.
As for the bottom bearing I have no idea how you get to it, dropping the drum has just revealed a roll pin, once removed I assume something unscrews.

If it's the same as mine the inner cup has a normal right hand thread into the outer cup. You don't (shouldn't) have to worry about the bearings falling out because there is a thrust nut holding the bearing in place. You won't have to worry about the bearings falling out until you have undone that nut.
Can't help on the bottom bearings, yours is different from mine.

Many thanks.
I undid the grub screw fully and it undid easily. All seemed like new in there with plenty of clean grease. I hope the bottom is the same if I ever get into it.

Lovely, and man thanks. I assume the bearing is similar to the top one, so no worries about bits falling out all over the yard.

Just reviving an ancient thread!

I have a new halyard slider to fit. Anyone know the easiest way to get to the foil to slide it on? Top? Bottom?

If you take the top off how do you replace the roll pin?

Thanks for that. Managed to get the furler down. Mast didn't fall down held from falling down backwards with 2 halyards!

So that all went fine. Then cant get the top off! It looks like there is a thread from the swaged fitting into the top bracket but couldn't shift it. So have left it for the rigger to have a look at.
