Rotostay Furling

Can anyone help.
I have decided to renew the standing rigging on my Colvic Countess 28.
The mast is dropped and all the rigging is off except the forestay.I find I cannot get the furling foil sections either apart from each other or from the drum.
The screws holding the foil section spar lionks will not undo.
I have tried heat and WD40.
I think I will have to cut through the jointer and the forestay.If I end up doing this does anyone out there know if it is possible to still obtain these spar links? The Rotostay is a 1984 Type E system.

The drum on the E type has a left-hand thread - the black extension screws out of the drum proper.

You'll find it almost impossible to undo the grub-screws on the foil section links, they're stuck in with bags of cyano-acrylic.
Rotomarine are still at Canal Wharf, Chichester: tel 01243 573131, Ian Cochran now owns the company and it's worth speaking to him before doing anything drastic.

In the past I've put a hacksaw though each of the foil joins and sent the bits back to them for a new forestay (it's vinyl coated) and an extra foil section to maintain the length.

The two times I have had mine apart in the last 17 years, I discovered that normal application of heat is way insufficient to get the foil off the drum. They need excessive heat to just short of melting the ali, then several really hard blows with a piece of 4x2 on the drum whilst the foil is secured onto a suitable strong point. As for the foil joiners, drill the screws out so that you can remove the joiners. They are expensive so worth saving if possible.

Last time, I renewed the ball races and ball bearings in both top and bottom bearings and ended up with basically an as new system.
