I have advertised my boat for sale on Apollo Duck and received an offer this morning from a person calling herself Rose Lama, she is offering to pay me full amount asking price for my boat only the payment to be made through Paypal. This person has not seen my boat other than in the photos.

The email address she gives is rose.lama401@gmail.com, does anyone know of this email address being used for scams please. This just has to be to good to be true.

Genuine scammers only ever use e-mail address at @scammail.com so you'll be fine.

Seriously though...

There was a scam where buyer pays through PayPal, collects in person, then claims you never delivered the item and demands a refund which PayPal provides as you have no proof of postage.

However I think there's a limit to how much they can claim so probably not the same scam, but most likely a scam.

I understand that these attempts are not usually to get their hands on your boat (car/caravan etc.). They are normally "overpayment" scams of some sort or another.

Lets say your boat is advertised for £10,000.

They agree to purchase it for that amount and then either:

1. Send £10,500 and ask you to forward the £500 extra to their shipping/collection agent to arrange the collection. You send out the £500 to an account (which is an account they own somewhere) but a few days later the original £10,500 bounces as it was fraudulent. However the £500 you sent on was real as you are a bonafide Paypal account holder so they gain the £500 and you are debt chased by Paypal for the £500 that your account now owes.

2. They send some random sum above £10,000 and then send a panic email saying they have sent too much. They then ask you to refund the difference through some other method or account, the outcome is the same as point 1.

I think this is a scam. I'm having the same sort of situation with selling my bike. They TXT me to ask if the bike is still for sale and to contact them through an e-mail address. Same thing offer to pay the full price by pay-pal. I just ignore them.

I have just received a text message saying she wanted to buy my car 'asap' and to send and e-mail to the address you quote, have you just wondered if you had had any feedback from this?

To anyone who's not found out. I unfortunately did . She messaged me to buy a boat I was selling . Once I'd emailed her she had me email and proceeded to transfer via pay pal lots of money and was told in order for paypal to release the money I needed to pay 3 large payments in cash via money gram to 3 diff people lol. It is a scam. Avoid and report so no body gets fooled into this . The pay pal emails are fake . Forward them to spoof@paypal.co.uk if you receive any . Hope this helps .

I just had the same text from rose.lama401@gmail.com offering to buy my Caravan. Must be a scam.

The address belongs to an habitual scammer.

Today they tried to scam a car seller and the email they sent looked very credible however there are some easy things you can pick up on;

Look for an upper case "i" in the word PayPal when you hover (not click) the return email address - you will see the address "paypai" - which will obviously look like "paypaI" with the upper case "i" representing the lower case "L"

Scammer also states paypal holding until a delivery charge is sent by moneygram - PayPal will never do that.
