We don't have any ropes on our boat, we do have warps though /forums/images/icons/smile.gif
We don't have any warps attached to the anchor either! just 10mm chain about 70metres long on to a 50kg Bruce.

We have 2 short mooring lines about 40ft long and then 2 big long 80ft warps for use in harbours to tie up to shore or for springs. I think the warps are nylon though can't be sure - we've had them for a long time. They are soft to use, though they absorb water, oil etc. but clean up in the washing machine fine. The braid is not a traditional 3 strand twisted but is 8-plait. They are very strong and easy to work with and I find them much better than the traditional 3-strand type for coiling and stowing.

We have 2 long thick 3 strand warps which we use if we need a 2nd anchor to stop rolling in a swell.

Good cruising

I use off the shelf deck line, with loops already spliced in one end for mooring. 4 x about 12 metres I guess. plus assortments of others, including a humungous thing about 30m that's great for towing or putting ashore when rafting,

Lots of 3 ply for mooring.

Boat is a Princess 55. Looking at the recommendations from the Compass website they recommend 4 warps. 2 of 1.5 times the length of the boat and 2 of the same length of the boat. I would pretty much concur with this as our 40ft lines are too short at times when tying with 2 springs fore and aft.

As for the diameter of the warps, again, go by the weight of your boat and the recomendations of the manufacturer.

Beneteau Antares Series 9. 9.25m

Anchor: 30m x 8mm chain. 30mm x 14mm x 3 strand warp (supplied with boat) 14kg Brittany anchor.
Marina Mooring: 18mm x 3 strand nylon.
General purpose mooring: 4 x 12m x 14mm octoplait (coils easier and 'softer' on the hands. Also does not harden with use.
Others: A couple of long (25m) 14mm x 3 strand lines. Lightweight (floating) heaving line. Also about 12m x 18mm x 3 strand nylon with a large carbine hook attached to the end. Very useful for the crew to make a quick fastening to a buoy, ring etc. especially when strong tide running!

David.
