Rope work on tiller

Thought some decorative fancy rope work over the wooden tiller would be nice. Suggestions on style of hitches(?) Please.

I'd start with a couple of simple Turk's Heads. Get some practice and take it from there.

On a previous boat's tiller I had two Turk's Heads at each end of the area that was the usual held while holding the tiller and I filled the space with a French whipping. It was similar to what is shown in the video but the size of cord that I used was 4mm and not as shown matter of taste. I varnished all over for protection but, here again, it is a matter of taste.
