Can someone give me a second opinion please - boat is out on charter and cannot be measured. Jeanneau 43DS but with stack pack (not in mast reefing) all lines lead back to coach roof.

New Main Halyard & 1st reefing line required.

P=13.25, I = 15.75, E = 5.2

Main Halyard 13.25 + 15.75 + 5.2 =34.2m say 37m to give some spare to cut off for top of mast sheave point wear.

1st reef (single line reefing) 5.2 +5.2 + (15.75 -13.25) + ( say 2x Boom to reef point & back =2x 3m) = 17.9m say 19m

Its the length from boom to 1st reef cringle that I have no idea!

All reefing lines appear 14mm as the main Halyard but thinking of going for 12mm for 1st reefing line as I suspect the 14mm was what the commissioning guys had plenty of spare!! leave main halyard at 14mm.

Anyone with experience of similar sized boats please - Just dont want spare mtrs of rope in cockpit but nor 1m short!!

As its not a current boat Jeanneau dealers no help!

Thanks great help - don't know where you got that from. Now electronically filed.

Wish my French was better. I have the stack pack so assume that is "Version Mat Classique" and "Version Mat Enrouleur" is in mast roller reefing.

For Classique they indicate IIRC the main halyard and list it as "Drisse GV" and 36m so that agrees with my calcs at 37m with spare to remake ends.

Best guess for reefing lines is Ris 1 & Ris 3 - funny no Ris 2? and I ordered the extra 3rd reefing line. Ris 1 is 20m so if I am correct my guess at 19m was 1m short!

Can anyone comment on my French guesses please.

From Jeanneau's website actually :)

Your French guesses are correct.

Reef 2 is listed at 17m. Did you notice both the reefs and the halyard are listed as 12mm not 14mm. The reefs are "tresse" which I think is braid but the halyard is "FO" - don't know what that is.

Troubadour,

Thanks your posts have been a great help.

Now looked again and Ris1 is 20m, Ris 3 is 23m and Ris 2 is 17m.

I am confused as I would think Reef 1 could be 17m but not reef 2! Perhap they number them from their position in the coachroof clutches rather than the position on the sail. May have ended up with an extra 3m or alternatively replace reef 2 instead!!

I can believe Reef 3 as its only on the leech and at luff use specticles over horn on boom.

All ordered and paid for now!
