Just fitted new cutlass bearing in the sterntube, stainless bolts which
hold the spurs cutter in place also hold the cutlass bearing,
problem is where the bolts thread into the sterntube, when replacing stripped
the threads in the tube, bronze around the threads gone pink and soft,
realise this is electrolisis at work, cleaned the end of the tube up problem
is only around the threads, so drilled and tapped opposite side to
refit, no problem, Now, do I refit with the stainless bolts or some other
metal? bearing in mind that the cutter itself is stainless,
on a earlier posting i explained that i lost one of the blades when it chopped some heavy trawl net.costing a small fortune to fix, so do not want to chance
losing any more of it in the future. hope Ihave explained myself clearly.

regards mike

Just seen your post (I'm new to the forum) I had a similar problem last year when I discovered that I had lost the anchor fitting for the fixed blade of my Ambassador Stripper. The screws had pulled out of the (presumably soft) bronze P bracket leaving large holes. I replaced the fitting on the other side and I hope it won't happen again.
From the absence of replies to your post I assume that this is not a common problem. Are we just unlucky?
Incidentally, the prop is bronze on a stailess steel shaft (the usual arrangement).
I have an anode on the shaft which degrades at a normal rate and the prop seems OK, so I thought that the electrolysis protection was satisfactory.
Has nobody else similar problems?
