2 mobos moored to the port hand channel mark in Lawling Creek with 2-3 jetskis buzzing around at v high speed - teenagers taking turns.

We were in out tideway dinghy - drifting on the tide in light airs into the creek towards Mayland - with a Harlow Blackwater Wayfarer about 10 mtrs on our starboard side - parallel course. One idiot on a jetski thought it funny to drive between us and the Wayfarer at full speed - soaking us all with spray. Now it was a warm day and the water wasn't freezing - but that's not the point.

Spoiled a lovely afternoon... then they shouted because I was taking pictures of them!!!
 
Did the round Canvey race yesterday in the sail & oar class, saw quite a few PWCs at Holehaven, without exception they all behaved themselves, even waving to us to encourage us to greater efforts, Nice to see we can get along sometimes!

I am trying to concur with your admirable sentiment, but I can't. Almost without exception
every jet-skier I have ever seen/come across behaves in an annoying and irresponsible manner.

I tried a jet-ski on holiday once. After about five minutes buzzing about I just couldn't see the point in it at all.
Mindless sums it up IMHO

The idiots in the OP and the report, especially the one in the report, deserve jail sentences never mind a fine.

Interesting. There' same river bailiff but not, to my knowledge, a patrol. I wonder if increased vigilance in the crouch has driven more of them to the Blackwater - as I've noticed an increased in leisure power use of the river.

I'll send the pics in but PWCs don't have names or SSR numbers so it's impossible to know who I'm reporting. The two moored mobos might be more identifiable though...
 
Down here the public slipways at Benfleet were closed a few years ago following a long history of problems with PWC's, the only place they can now launch is at Pitsea marina or Shoeburyness, with so few launching sites it tends to discourage the idiots. Also the recession has curtailed the activity somewhat, far fewer ***** buying a jetski on ebay & going mental at the weekend before getting bored & selling it on.
With an organised Club at Allhallows & Pitsea site well controlled there are far fewer problems as the sensible PWC guys tend to self police.

Simon - I expect these are coming from Steeple Bay caravan park. There are quite a few parked there by the slipway into Mayland Creek. (we drove through there out of interest the other week, well interest wasn't there but it is huge). The lady in the garage at Latchingdon checked a £20 I proffered recently. I asked if they got many duds "Quite a few now the caravanners are back".

Is there no legislation against mooring to navigational bouys?

You have my sympathy, there are some muppets about in Lawling Creek. Mind you we get a few in Maldon too. Worth a letter to the Steeple caravan park about antisocial jet skis? They run the slip I think.

Speed limits, laws and decency are not part of these idiots way of life. Their way of life is somewhat outside the law, the likelyhood of the police catching up with them is pretty remote, not surprised to hear about the £20 notes. No doubt a few other things going on as well.
Only way to attract their attention would be to do a Nelson on them, large cannon in deep water..
 
One of the biggest problems in the upper reaches of the Blackwater are the PWCs that are launched from the Osea Leisure Park slip.

Some of he vessels are marked as required and others are not (supposedly a big No No). They object, quite violently in my experience, to photographers. The closure of he police marine unit has made matters worse and the river bailiff has great difficulties enforcing the law; he cannot work 7 days nor is he budgeted for it.

They, the PWCs, are predictably there at spring tides racing in and out of he moorings where there are people swimming and frankly make it sick-making by the waves they generate. They are just showing off to their friends ashore. Twenty plus knots in a 8 knot area. In high spring tides I have seen PWC's speeding amongst the flooded salting of Northey Island a supposedly SSI under the RSPB who seem wilfully blind to these transgressions but claim that egrets are offended by building works on the main land shore.

The only way to successfully cure the problem is to ban all PWC from an area of the River Blackwater to the west and north/south of the Marconi Buoy.

Speed limits cannot be successfully enforced, as has been demonstrated and a death is a likely outcome if it continues as now.

They, the PWCs, do not put anything into the local economy which the yachts do; mooring fees, stores, fuel.

By making them prohibited from the area, then enforcement becomes clear and simple. You are in the restricted area then you are nicked! Simples. For the rest, the upper reaches return to their former quietness and thus attract more visitors for the peace and quiet.
 
There was a bit of radio traffic from Thanes CG yesterday pm getting Vigilant (?) to go to Felixstowe to "advise" a mobo towing a donut in amongst swimmers, same message later about the other end of Felixstowe front
 
Had a rant yesterday afternoon approaching Walton on the Naze. A Sunseeker 50 passed me about 30 feet away, didn't bother to look at how much wash he was churning out. Before the mobo behind him had a chance I was in full Victor Meldrew ranting about a whole bay and they had to come so close. The Mobo had to slow down to hear me so no wash! Then later in the afternoon sitting peacefully on a mooring a racing raggie came past flat out and threw the boat about again. So not just poor seamanship from power.

Other than that was a great weekend!

there was a skier in the channel from Pin Mill to collimer & back last evening A Sportique class sport boat, i reported to Ipswich but the duty HM was less that interested
 
I'm tempted to buy one of those paintball guns. I was at a paintball site a year or two ago and a bloke had his own - which means you must be able to buy them. Non lethal but highly satisfying I'd think.
