My daughters at a party on Saturday night which leaves us on our own for the first time in 9 years, Swmbo has asked me to arrange a Romantic weekend....... I need help !

Current thoughts/options

Dash across to France but it would be a bit rushed.

Sunset cruise up the Medina with live background music to join Kevs unofficial forum meet in Freeloaders Bay ( I think I am banned from official forum meets and might need special permission anyway)

Not sure if the weather will hold out, for Fresco Dinning in Alum Bay and a short dash to Yarmouth/Lymington for the night (if you don't want to anchor up for the eve)... easily done, can't beat it if the weathers good and it's a clear night...

Book a pontoon at Buckers Hard or take a buoy up the Beaulieu river and have a nice meal outside in the cockpit.

Fab.

That would be romantic - make sure you have a bottle of Moet on ice and a selection of delicious pre-prepared food that you can serve (M & S at Hedge End has some lovely stuff)

Don't forget flowers, chocs, and a really good bottle of wine

May

Are you sure a 'romantic weekend' should involve boating? My SWMBO's idea of a romantic weekend would be any weekend which didn't involve boats (or golf, cars or motorbikes for that matter). Take her out to show in London or something. Just think of the positive brownie points?

It's a real shame that this weekend has been booked for 6 months for your Old Felixians First XV (1986) reunion weekend in Riga. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I hope this is your idea of a troll post Mike /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Where is the inform moderator button /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

A good Vindaloo washed down with copious amounts of Tiger beer than back on board for a game of "stickit" under the sheets! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Well yeah it was a bit tongue in cheek but not entirely. Although my SWMBO likes boating, she doesn't like it as much as I do but she still does it basically for my sake. If she suggested a romantic weekend, I wouldn't suggest boating because I know what she really wants to do is have a nice dinner out or, as I say, do a show. Sometimes we blokes have to remember that we couldn't do boating without our SWMBO's

I agree with Mike.

Book Eurostar to paris. 1st class, champagne on the train, and a trip on the bateau mouche for dinner.

That way you can tell her you're having dinner on the boat on Saturday thus not spilling the beans about the surprise, and you will get 3 years worth of brownie points.

That or she'll throw you out thinking you're having an affair.

Deleted User - you miss one important point

" Swmbo has asked me to arrange a Romantic weekend"

Thus she wishes to "reward" DAKA for the nine years he has missed being romantic on Saturaday nights....

Seems to me that, played correctly, she will even think the boat and associated expense is well worth it :-)

I can see that you're well on the way to divorce!

Rollocks! How else are singlehanders motivated to put to sea?
A wife who stays at home and lets you go off and do your own thing is 1000% better than a miserable whinger cluttering up the boat.

(No, I don't do Marriage Guidance - but getting the miles in can include life ashore as well as afloat!

The Millstream in Bosham is very romantic and only a gentle stroll down to the waterfront[ QUOTE ]

. . . where you can see his MoBo fallen over at LW to reveal bent P-brackets and/or knackered props.
Which is when he discovers the integrity of the insurance cover!
How romantic.
