In the UK I have just bought a Hunter Legend 240 Trailer Sailer. (US) Made.
Originally it had a Roller Furling Headsail (Jib)
Aparrently it was damaged and removed and the Sail was altered to pull up the forestay normally.
I would like to go back to having the Jib rolled around the forestay.
Can anyone recommend one that is inexpensive but reliable.

It is 40 years since I had a yacht (Moody 30) and then they only had normal forestays.
Its a bit like only having a diesel car for 40 years and then getting a petrol one and having to use words like Distributor, Rotor Arm which you have not used for years.

Have you got the luff foil?
If so you might get a swivel and drum to match for less than replacing the whole thing?
BTW, petrol cars don't have distributors or rotor arms this century...

There was a time when the term roller-furling was distinguished from roller-reefing, with the former referring to those systems such as the Wykham-Martin gear that could not be used part-furled. I think that the distinction has fallen into disuse now that furling gear has become almost universal, so either term is usually understood.

My next petrol car will probably have a zenith carburettor as I want an old Land Rover to tow my boat.

The Plastimo range seem popular for diy at reasonable price had one on previous boat no complaints.
I have one and it's fine. Fitting was straightforward.

You may get away with just taking the hanks off your sail, or it may need a new luff rope. If the latter, well worth finding out how much extra you'd pay for a foam luff - they make a world of difference to sail shape when reefed.

There's a furler from a company called Alado that seems to me to be a very clever and simple design. Also less pricy than some. I haven't used one but am thinking about it to replace my current very old furler. Might be worth a look.
