rodman 41 - what do you think?

Just came back from the Cannes boat show and saw many 40' flybridge boats... Including the Fairline 42/5, Cranchi etc... but the one we like the best was the Rodman 41- everything about it seemed better than the rest. Does anyone have any experience of this boat or indeed Rodman as a reliable company etc...?

I never owned one or know of anyone that has one, But having said that if I put myself in your shoes, I would look to charter one for a week and then make my decision !

Do some seraches on the net or ask the copmany them selvs if there are any charter copmanies that charter there boat ?

If the answer is no ? Would that say something ? maybe not..

no, I don't think lack of charter boats or otherwsie is a comment as to an individual boats desirability. Often, cheaper boats are better value on charter. But new boats in 41 footer would entirely be dependent upon whether the owner wanted to charter out a new boat - and many say no thanks, it's too wonderful and it's mine.

I dont know them close up but...

1. general journalist consensus seems to be they're good qwality

2. MBY tested one about February 2002 (maybe was slightly smaller than 41 foot?) and also tested a 30 odd footer about 2 mths ago. This is rough memory, sorry, I dont save the old issues

3. How are 2nd hand resale values turning out? It's a less-known brand so might suffer. In which case buy a late model used one?

"Including the Fairline 42/5" I've heard of the Sealine 42/45 but didnt know Fairline made such a model?
As you can imagine Rodman are popular down here. They seem like fine sea boats, unusually possessing a small keel which helps with low speed manouvering
The mags have spoken well of them, Oldgit is a fan as he went on one at last years SBS, spect he'll coment soon.

Thanks for your reply...much appreciated. Do you happen to know how old the Rodman 41 is? I have just been looking on the net for any other websites which might have some reviews of this boat, but I can hardly seem to find a review of any Rodman boat so far! Any suggestions for good sites to look at, or even good mags/books that might help? I am also looking through the MBY archives for potential past reviews

MBY did a test a couple of years back - do a search in the Reprints section of this website. From memory they were pretty complimentary about the boat. I believe Rodman is a very well established Spanish builder but best of all, Rodman is sold through a division of B A Peters (Seasport?) in the UK and you can bet that they would'nt have taken on the distributorship without believing in the products and they should be pretty good on back-up
IMHO, the R41 is a fine boat at a realistic price. I cant think of any other boat that has 3 cabins for the price (certainly makes you wonder why the Fairline Phantom 46 is £100k more)

Yeah you're right and I know MBY rate it as one of most best value boats etc but cant help thinking that manufacturer/dealer network will more interested in raggie boats so I would wonder about after-sales. Beneteau dont have mobo building pedigree like Rodman which may or may not be reflected in engineering quality. Purely personal subjective opinion so could be totally vwrong

We took one out at last years SBS, very impressed, the flybridge seating was the only small niggle did not seem quite right, perfomance is good very flat turning not like my 385, bags of space and quite well finished if you poke around were your not susposed to.
Three cabins are good as well.
Tracks well my 8 year old brought her back with no problems from lower helm.
If I had the money again (spent it on another house) I would have bought it.

They also make a whole range of SUPERFAST patrol boats. You can have a machine gun mounted as well !

The Rodman boat we went on last year may be a bit spartan for some but def. a real nice ride in uncomfortable chop.Well impressed with handling and performance.
