Those are not apples...
That's a fisherman's pattern mooring anchor...cos its only got one fluke..
...and it looks in very good nick too....![]()
On the coastal path past Largs Y/H there is a display of 15 or so different anchor types with signs giving descriptions and usage.
These large mooring anchors used to be made by Seaboard Marine, but they were apparently taken over by Gael Force - more info re these anchors here at http://www.gaelforcemarine.co.uk/Anchors-Mooring/Anchors/SM12-Samson/
These used to (still do?) form the basis of all the moorings for the RNLI lifeboats.
