I am buying a Sea Ray 260 and am planning on keeping it dry stacked at Rockley Park. Their prices are good and seem very friendly but have noticed a comment or two on this forum about access at all tidal states. Didn't think this was a problem but if anyone has any experience, would appreciate it before I hand over cash.

cheers

Can't help you with the tidal states I'm afraid, but we do know the boat park at Rockley and it's a very nice spot indeed. If you do get a chance speak to the guys who run the HobyCat centre - really good guys and a spin in a cat on a blowy day is definately worth it.

Duncan is the resident "Expert" on Rockley, sure he will be along shortly. We used to have a searay 225WE stacked there, (well it's kept on the floor actually if over 20') and were very happy there. Great people and fellowship. Not to sure about Bourne Leisure, lots of promises which came to nought whislst there but would certainly go back.

Tidal states can be a small problem, just watch tables and adjust arrival / departure to suit, were there 18 months used boat most weekends and never a real problem in truth.

All the very best with it. Paul

I have my sailing boat at Rockley and spend 99% of the time afloat ( boat is wooden) Place is empty at present. Price is very good. However, and I could be well off the mark here, I suspect the company who own rockley park and the boat yard are starting to get wind of what a money spinner this place is. Have noticed recently a lot of people with clip boards and they have just put in some more moorings. Changes usually mean costs!! Access can be tight at lowish water, but keep centre of markers and should be ok. Forget it at very low water!! They have said the channel is going to be dredged with rest of harbour, but not seen them doing it yet. If you plan your trips you should be ok. Weekends can be very busy but adds to the fun!!

Welcome overdraft -

firstly tidal access - no great problem; there is the odd hour here and there when you will struggle to find the depth you need, and a few on top that may make you uncomfortable! Basically, as it has been for the last few years, if you work from the Poole Harbour tidal planner you get what it shows on the graph in the channel - ie if it's showing 1m of tide you have 1m of water. LAT is about 0.4, mid LWS about 0.6.

I am led to believe that they have significant work scheduled over Jan - March, which includes dredging the basin, installation of a holding pontoon and new access for racking boats etc. This has been talked up for some time but is now proceeding!

Look forward to seeing you around - I'm the one still on the pontoon and out most weekends!

IMHO I think there will be more demand for places in Poole harbour as folks from Cobbs quay think about moving out, with the potential of having to pass under two lift bridges to get out into the harbour from 2007 or so , Cobbs Q will be un tenable for large craft. Wise folks will be trying to re establish now.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts and advice. I have confirmed my place with Rockley Park and will be moving my new pride and joy round there over christmas. Duncan, I shall look out for you on the pontoon - that's where I'll be until New Year. Mine's a Sea Ray 260 - see you there!

Apparently the channel has now been dredged and there are likely to be more pontoons in next few weeks.

cheers

Adam
