Anything special about one of these? When I did my tappets on my YSB8 I just cut out my own from a sheet of gasket paper from the motor factors.
Anything different about one on a 2gm20? £24 seems a bit steep for a genuine part.

What is the rocker cover like?You can make a gasket of cork gasket material and assemble it greased.It works for cars after all.
 
Thanks for the options. It's what I was thinking but just wondered if there is any reason why I would need the genuine article
 
Well if the r/c gaskets for the 2GM are anything like the 3GM's I'd pay the £24. The 3GM ones are like a rubber band which locate in a very narrow groove in the rocker cover. I unsuccessfully tried to re-use the old one including using gasket sealer - I
couldn't and it didn't !
 
If you make your own, check that you still have clearance under the decompression lever when its all assembled.

Think it might be the same. looking online they call it an o-ring. I would have thought that type was meant to be resuable otherwise why not just a paper gasket?

“O” rings I have known to lengthen after they have been removed from the part they were sealing, if it is “O” ring type material (elastomer) can you source a length of it and superglue the ends together to form a seal.

That's what I did with my Beta and it worked perfectly.
 
Tappets are done and rocker cover is back on. I can confirm it is a rubber O-Ring that sits in a grove in the rocker cover and mates with a flat surface on the cylinder head. I smeared it with grease and re-used it and it ran for 30 mins with no sign of any leak. Fingers crossed, a good result.
I still think £24 for a rubber o-ring is a complete rip off. However I did mange to find a supplier on ebay who will quote considerably cheaper if you can give him a part no.
