Rock gut short cut from Liverpool

Hope to get out of Liverpool on High water Saturday heading for Conwy.
I have considered Rock gut before but time and wind dictated other wise.
On Saturday it could be a good option especially as the forcast winds would suit this option.
I have some locally aquired way points and these were a good fit to what I plotted on the chart but these are old now and I wondered if there was up to date information.
The 'channel' is reported to be 'wet' at a 2m low water and HW on Saturday is 8.4m ( we draw 1.5m)
Has anyone any up to date info? I will ask in the bar when I am back there but a sober view is a bit more confidence boosting!
 
You will be exiting the channel just after high tide so depths not too critical I would have thought. It never moved much when I used it over the years but haven't done it for some time. Suggest you speak to Neil the owner of Mighty Max II who overlooks the channel.
 
Thanks for that. It does seem that with lots of water you just have to make sure that you get through the 'training wall gap' ok (and there are good visual aids for confidence)
And avoid that mass of concrete further along. Apart from that the waypoints are not too critical as depth change not rapid.
So is Neil ,(Mighty Max II) a forumite then?
 
The description given on the LYC site is good to use. I use the channel extensively, drawing 7 feet, and have done this 4 hrs before HW.
If your locking out of Brunswick about 1 hr before HW you hit the Rock Gut at the top of the tide.
I tend to go close to Brazil buoy, and aim to pass close to the North of the Perch beacon (close by the New Brighton Lt.Ho. Watch the tidal set.
Once past the Perch, I shape a course to make about 260T to the Rock Channel
Once at the Rock Channel, you can use a back transit of a green (copper) dome (rear) and keep that in sight in the gap between two blocks of flats (grey coloured (Front transit)
You may find some small unlit buoys in the channel close to the turn waypoints. These may have been placed by the LYC, but dont rely on them to be there, or if they are there, to be in the correct place.
Also, watch out for other traffic, the wind farm work boats use this channel as well.
I f I remember right, the ebb pushes you towards the New Brighton side.

If going this Saturday you will have the further obstacle of crossing the power boat racing circuit, which usually comes right past the entrance to the marina lock, before you get to the Rock Channel.
