Robin Knox-Johnston on radio 4 tonight 9pm (sat)

Though he didn't so much win as be the only one who finished :)

...and didn't do it non-stop. ...and Moitessier crossed his outward track first. (ie depending on your definition of round the world, Moitessier was first to sail non-stop round the world.)

Still an amazing bloke. Giving his winnings to Crowhurst's young family at a time in his life when that money would have been most useful is a staggering act of generosity . That alone sets him apart from... ...well from me for a start.

Well I caught it tonight and enjoyed it. A good story enhanced by the fact it was the man himself and some original sound recordings. A pretty light account designed for entertainment, but I was suitabley gripped all the same. Haven't previously studied RKJ, but recently saw The Mercy.

Having listened, that was an exceptional radio programme. Considerable respect to RKJ, his lady, and all the other members of the families who took part.

Picked up a copy of his biography from a NT bookshop I think and looking forward to reading it. Last time I saw him was cycling past Gosport boat yard but in fine shape I recall.

I listened to it last night, accompanied by a bottle of Amarone, and enjoyed it from beginning to end (the programme), but hadn't realised that amongst the other difficulties encountered, he had his appendix burst as well!
