Robertsons Golly for sale

I would also contact Clare Francis and let her know what you are up to.

I presume you have seen this?
Golly Corner: Voyage in The Robertson's Golly Yacht - 2006
I actually found a copy of her book about the race in the boat when I went to investigate some systems yesterday! I sat there reading it till about 3am this morning before I realized I should be sleeping haha. I intend to contact her and see if I can ask her to sign the copy I found on the boat (it's part of the original run, though not sure if it was reprinted).

I know she's getting on in years now and I don't want to ask her to come down to the boat, but I think having a signed copy of her book on the boat adds something to the story and history. I'll wait till I'm further along though, don't want to come off as a dreamer :)

They do indeed, but suggest you look at the list of things to do which does not suggest a minimalist approach!
It's not minimalist but it's not maximalist either. I'm trying to strike a balance between being spartan enough to get it done while still making it a nice (and safe) place to be on extended voyages. I've already cut out a couple of my originally planned comfort features and I'm not adverse to doing that more if I need to for the sake of expediency. I will not ever cut corners on the things that matter, but for the rest of it, the things that don't affect seaworthiness or the basic requirements for life, I can work on them when I have the time.

I sense the OP knows exactly what they are doing and isn't going to be deterred by internet chat, but yeah, all true.
Yeah, for real. I'm just here to share occasional updates and make sure people know she's in relatively good hands. Negative talk doesn't influence me. I appreciate realistic advice but it just drives me to do more research rather than doubt my course of action. Life's a ride, enjoy it. I grew up poor as dirt and if there's anything in this world I know how to do, it's how to create something from nothing when most people would give up.

Sure.
I’m sure we both have experience of working on and sailing boats and enjoy doing both

Reading what the OP wrote -and that’s all we can really know at this stage.
He has bought the boat
He has a plan
And a Wish List
And a brother to help
And is solvent
Sounds a pretty good start to me.

No plan survives encounter with the gritty grimy reality of working on an old boat does it?
I hope he continues to refine that plan but keep the end in sight.

There are far worse projects than an old Tyler mouldings Olson 38 around to trap the starry eyed and naive.I think ! 🤔

And there are ex world girdlers offered with all the kit and all the stories but it’s all knackered.
The plan is indeed being refined. The costs are being estimated and re-estimated. The materials are being acquired. Most of the skills are in hand already, and those that aren't we are learning. We have money, time, and energy to spend on this. All things considered I'm optimistic and excited and there's nothing anyone can say, nor any amount of hard work that'll change that.

Maybe I'm gullible, maybe I should have spent 20k on a better example of a 38. All I can say right now is that I am going to do this one way or another and we'll see if it was worth it at the end. I do know how proud of myself I'll feel when I manage to pull this off, that's worth striving for in my opinion.
