Not a very boaty title, but can anybody put a rough figure on the cost of getting a 25-foot boat moved from Essex to the Solent?

I assume it's cheaper than paying for professional delivery by sea?

I had a quote to move a 28ft from Portsmouth to Plymouth by road, it was £1200 a couple of months ago, it was the only price I could get, no one else seemed interested in quoting, they were all too busy, obviously the business to be in. decided to sail her round.

You should get it for considerably cheaper than that, and even less if there is a back load.

i paid 400 quid to get a 27 foot yacht from brighton to cumbria a distance of 400 miles, very good price i think

We payed £400 for 32ft Colvic Ipswich to Cardiff. Just tie it in with a return journey.

Try this chap. I didn't need his services in the end, but very helpful and reasonably priced. He's only equipped for boats up to 5 ton, this is reflected in the cost.

Your man just quoted me £700 plus VAT = £822.50

I'd be seriously inclined to sail her round. Only take a few days. Best to have three of you as there is such a hideous amount of shipping, especially round Thames and Dover areas in the TSS. Be a good fun trip.

I just used this guy. Friendly and helpful. Has a self loader so you won't need a crane either.

What is it? Mobo or saily? If saily, will need mast down and trailer to suit keel type. If mobo... go for it on her own bottom. You could do that in a weekend easy.

I did a 28ft yacht from ipswich to Portsmouth last winter. Best quote came from www.boat-loads.com and the transport went fine. Always ask if they have a reverse journey coming up that you can latch on to as this will save a lot of money. I paid full price in the end and i think it was in the region of 500 quid.

However, I've not bought the boat, so it's all a bit academic now.
