Rule 20

(b) The Rules concerning lights shall be complied with from sunset to sunrise and during such times
no other lights shall be exhibited, except such lights as cannot be mistaken for the lights specified
in these Rules or do not impair their visibility or distinctive character, or interfere with the
keeping of a proper look-out.

So presumably between sunrise and sunset it would be fine to use these as a means of attracting attention?

Do not have regs to hand but are there not instances where col regs say ships should display deck lights etc. ie from memory ( which is a bit knackered these days) when at anchor?
How do the regs feel about fishing boats with white lights on decks when raising nets ? over the stern or to one side

I bought the RAC one, but I'm fairly sure that they're all the same. I will be carrying it on the boat and will use it when the flares run out, so if anybody sees it flashing would they please report the contravention to the MCA - preferably by 'phone.

That has 6 flashes in a group then a pause.

Could be more confused with a north cardinal which has 12 plus 1 long flash.

a scm is 6 + 1, a ncm is flashing quick or very quick.

It is very bright and is now in the boat box ready for the next trip down.

It will be great for on-trampoline discos ....... but will still look rather dim compared to the cruise liners which pass us in the night with their disco lights flashing away. Anyone care to complain to P&O or Royal Caribbean about ColRegs non-adherence?

Not sure what the disco lights could be mistaken for ? A flashing red or amber could be mistaken for something else though.

Isn't that vessels over 100m loa ?

I think they are OK.

The key part of the rule is not to display anything that can be confused as something else. So flashing pink or purple should be OK
