RNSA 14

Hello all, very new to all this, I'm looking on obtaining an RNSA14 does anyone have any pics or drawings on how the original look should be i.e rigging ,sails, mast. Any info would be very nice and very much welcomed. I may try to pop into the Museum in Devonport Plymouth, many thanks in advance

Hello scrumpy. I learned to sail in one of these as a Sea Scout in the 1960s. It had a Gunter rig, with the mast stepped well forrard and a very small jib as I recall. A big metal centreplate gave them a lot of stability. I don't think I have any photographs I'm afraid.

It's well over 40 years since I sailed one of these, nice boats but heavy and there was virtually no way of stopping a capsize when the lee gunwhale went under. Yes gunter rigged and then cotton sails. Most were made by dockyard apprentices and original bouynacy was with copper tanks in the boy and stern. To right a capsize you needed to lower the sails and with no self bailers it was all done by hand.

I had one called "Twelth Knight" back in 1974. It had a bermudan rig and a heavy, galvanised steel CP. We boxed in the bow section and the stern in the vain hope of giving it buoyancy. We sailed it mainly on the Forth.
It was sold for £350 and headed up towards Fort William. . A very nice little boat which was not as wet as some of the comments suggest.
As I had bought it from the Sea Scouts at Granton/Whitecraigs, it could well be the one in which Ken learned to sail.

Could well be the one. Ours was based at Granton for at least part of the year, trailered to various places for summer camps, including one more or less where Dalgety Bay SC is now. The capsize issue was well known and consequently we were bound by pretty conservative rules about what conditions to go out in.

Hello SW Gypsy many thanks for the responce, the boat is in ok condition but has has been pianted on the inside which i would love to bring back to varnish and back to original look, i'm getting some pics at the w/end so i'll post them on.
