Have great respect for the lads who do that job and do sometimes get disappointed with the critics of the RNLI who are in the main part time hobby boaters.
Have always held a high opinion of all involved with the RNLI and as some will know have had good reason to be grateful for the services rendered by two of their boats on the South coast recently.
Long may they carry on.

Appears to be most prevalent on certain other forums and mainly concerns the fund raising methods of RNLI.
You will very rarely find any serious critics among those who earn their living on the water,it mainly appears to be from those usually standing on large amounts of white glassfibre mainly at weekends.

Trouble is, I bet this thread will bring on those that think they could manage the RNLI far better than it is.

There are some parts of the RNLI's work that I think "Yup, I could probably do that with a bit of training".
e.g. buzzing around Chichester harbour in the summer in a D-Class, towing boats off the sandbanks and rounding up the odd stray dinghy.

But going out to sea in a F10 ??? "Err, sorry lads, looks a bit squirrelly out there for me today..."

I have enormous respect for those that do.

I suppose it's because "it's what they do". And to help the anguished relatives/friends back on shore.

Agree but i guess RW has a point but risking others lives for what is after all this time a body is not a good option

In all honesty after an hour in those sort of temperature and conditions, it is a recovery not a rescue.
All I know is if I cock it all up through my own stupidity or worse, there is a good chance that no one with me with suffer any awful consequences other than being towed home with one very shamefaced skipper at the end of an RNLI towrope.
